iPad mini vs iPod Touch 5: Is iPad mini a right choice?

ipad mini vs ipod touch 5

Oct 23 is surely an unhackneyed day. Apple, the tablet ancestor, released its latest tablet - iPad mini. It's the first small size tablet in iPad series, which is only 7.9 inch. It was modified in many places, compared with its brother - iPad 3. Eg. the display, the camera, SIM card. Mainwhile, someone finds that it has many common points with iPod touch, Apple audio player series. iPod touch 5 is even better than iPad mini and cost Apple fans less money. Let's compare the two devices in details.

  • Display
  • iPad mini has the same screen as iPad 2 but smaller. The 7.9-inch display has a 1024 x 768 resolution with 163 pixels per inch. It's not quite as fantastic as the Retina Display, such as iPod Touch 5 uses. But it also brings you a nice experience when you're reading Web pages or watching movies.
iPod touch 5 has the same screen as the iPhone 5. The 4-inch Retina Display is really the best display technology in iOS products. The 1136 x 640 resolution with 326 pixels per inch will make reading text fantastic and it will make videos and images pop.

  • Battery
  • iPad mini can works for 10 hours, supporting by built-in 16.3 Wh battery. iPod touch 5 also has a built-in battery. Up to 40 hours music playback time and up to 8 hours video playback time are given by Apple official website.

  • OS and Processor
  • Both iPad mini and iPod touch 5 have the same processor - Apple dual-core A5 processor. iOS 6 runs on A5 processors, too.

  • Connection
  • Wi-Fi and Bluetooth are the basic connections in iOS products. Fans have two iPad mini versions to choose, Wi-Fi or Wi-Fi+LTE.

  • Camera
  • iPod touch 5 owns a 5-megapixel iSight camera and a 1.2-megapixel FaceTime HD camera (720p). iPad mini has the same with iPod touch 5.

  • Apps
  • iPod touch will essentially have access to all of the 700,000+ apps in the App Store in an optimized way. The iPad mini will run the existing 250,000+ iPad-specific apps without any modifications, but iPhone/iPod touch apps will have to be run at double the size.

  • Colors
  • The iPod touch will be available in a variety of colors while the iPad mini looks dull in color, only coming in black or white. But iPad mini has a new smart cover option.

  • Storage and Price
  • iPad mini comes with 16GB, 32GB and 64GB, one more choice than iPod touch 5. The price of iPad mini disappoint many people. WiFi 16GB at $329 doesn't have much competitive power in small tablets, even compared with Apple's another product - iPod touch 5.
